“You can have either ego or divinity - with ego you will be isolated -with divinity you  will have eveything you need", Yogi Bhajan

Sat Nam!  Greetings and Welcome back to week four of our seven week study of the Seven Steps to Happiness, written by Haribhajan S. Khalsa, based on the teachings of Yogi Bhajan, PhD.

Dignity will give you Divinity, which is the fourth step to success. Divinity is a state of majesty where the crown of spirituality is bestowed upon you. You cannot fake, take, bribe or buy the crown of spirituality - it can only be given to you as a gift from Infinity. Divinity means to not be divided from Infinity. You and Infinity are ONE. This is your real power.

But what is Divinity really?  Some people associate the word Divine or Divinity with organized religion or church.  Certainly, we find the Divine in church or religion.  But, we do not have to attend church or be a part of an organized religion to experience a deep sense of Divinity.  Sometimes, in my experience, quite the opposite.  I have found the most profound and intimate experiences in the most ordinary, every day activities, places, people and things.  One of my favorite experiences of pure Divinity was at my Grandson's basketball game!  I wrote about it on a earlier Musing if you are interested (Click Here to read the entire post).  But lets see what Haribhajan Khalsa and Yogi Bhajan teach us about Divinity.

Divinity Means To Not Be Divided from Infinity

Our mind perceives the world in terms of duality: good and bad, light and dark, pleasure and pain, friend and enemy, yin and yang. Living from duality means identifying with the opposites in life. Duality is not reality. It is the world perceived through our five senses. This play of polarities is a trick of the mind and separates us from each other and keeps us living in unreality. The belief that we are separate creates all doubt, distrust, pain and suffering.

For example, when you are having a ‘good’ experience, relaxing on the beach you think, “I have to work tomorrow. I don’t like my job”. With these thoughts, you never really enjoy the moment; never really surrender to the moment and to the experience. Whenever you are in your mind, you are either in the future or the past (both unreality) but never in the moment - the NOW which is reality.

Every being on this planet comes from Infinity and Infinity lives within them – we are all connected. It is more than a sweet concept – it is Truth. When you have Divinity, you accept that life is in perfect balance. There is no duality. Life is just happening. There is no good or bad. It is the mind that makes it so.

We are all born to go the distance toward our destiny. Going the distance or committing to the journey of the soul can be experienced as pressure, challenge, and opposition. When the pressure of time and space is upon you and when challenges meet you at every corner, this is the most difficult time to remember your Divinity. But, it is in the face of these challenges that you most need to remember that we are all ONE.

When we remember we are Divine, we re-frame our challenges and obstacles as experiences that will make us stronger. Like the caterpillar that is destined to become a butterfly, we sometime have to struggle to free ourselves from the confines of the past. We must exercise our wings by pushing against the cocoon if we are ever to be strong enough to fly. In fear or despair, we may pray for help and ask that the challenge be removed. A compassionate person may try to ‘help’ the butterfly by opening the cocoon – but the butterfly will have weak wings and will die when it cannot take flight.

THERE IS A WAY THROUGH EVERY BLOCK

The challenges we face can make us stronger and help us mature and grow as a soul. When we have our Divinity we will still be faced with challenges, some of which may seem impossible to overcome. But, at that moment, in complete faith, we can redirect our mind with one pointedness toward Infinity. We REMEMBER who we really are – infinite, with an infinite amount of compassion, love and kindness to extend to others and our self.

Yogi Bhajan, has left 5 Sutras for the Aquarian Age. One of the sutras is “There is a Way Through Every Block”, which is the Sutra for this year, 2014.  Every challenge, no matter how great or small, has a solution or a way through. This solution however, doesn’t come from the mind. It’s not logical or rational. The solution comes bubbling to the surface through your intuition. How do you know the difference between intuition and thoughts from the mind? Intuition is neutral in energy - there is no judgment, no shoulds and no fear. Intuition is the creative energy - it is like a small soft voice in you ear - it is your Divinity that is leading you through every block.

Self - Responsibility

To be Divine, is to accept that the totality of the Universe is contained within you. Nothing is lacking. Everything you need is inside of you. In fact, there is NO outside of you at all – reality is created inside and through you. To understand and accept this, as Truth, is to take full responsibility for what you have created in your life. When life is not going your way, the ego and the mind seek to blame someone – anyone - your spouse, the government and most especially, your earthly parents. This is also called victim conscious-ness. Victim consciousness would have you believe that life is happening to you. You have no power and have no part to play in the creation of your reality. This is not true. There’s a ‘payoff’ for remaining in victim consciousness. A person stuck in victim feels justified to stay comfortable - not grow and stretch - not do their destiny. Victims can usually be found surrounded by other victims. For example, a person with a drug and alcohol addiction may blame their present circumstances on their family of origin. They were unloved, unwanted, and abused by their family. Now, as an adult, they refuse treatment, help or support. They will not take responsibility for the choices they have made in their life. Another person with a similar background will have a completely different life by making different choices. They choose to rise above their origins, grow and use that experience to serve others.

Courage to Take Risks

Divinity gives you the courage to take risks. It gives you the knowingness that there is no such thing as failure - only opportunities for learning and growth. To live with courage is to operate from the heart. When you realize that you (Infinity) are undying, unborn and can neither be created nor destroyed – you can transcend fear. This state of being can bring you into your heart and put compassion into action.

When you have Divinity, you are not afraid to embrace your destiny. You do not look for false security within the material world. You are not afraid to let go of a job that is creating depression. You are able leave an abusive relationship. You can walk into the unknown - knowing that the Universe will provide all resources you need. Like the Fool in the tarot deck, you move forward, trusting and knowing that a great adventure waits with all its twists and turns.

Our choices are either taking us toward our source (love) or away from our source (fear). If we look in truth at all fear – it arises from fear of physical death. People who identify with their egos and seek security in the material realm usually have a difficult time with death. They will make all their life choices from fear - in a subconscious attempt to avoid the reality of death – which only results in taking them further from their source.

Divinity means that you are covered by Infinity. There is no longer a fear of physical death. Death is simply a transition into other vibrational realities. Your identity is firmly rooted in Infinity. What is there to fear?

DIVINITY MEDITATION

MUDRA:  Place the right hand on the knee in gyan mudra (tip of the thumb touching the tip of the index finger). Raise  the left hand in front of  the Heart Center.  Palm is flat and fingers are pointed to the right

EYES:  Fix the eyelids at 1/10 open

MANTRA:  I AM, I AM  *

MOVEMENT:  Start with the left hand 6 inches from the chest.  Chant out loud I AM as you bring the hand closer to the chest - about 4 inches.  Then, chant I AM as you extend the palm out to about 12 inches.  Take a short breath through the nostrils as you draw the hand back to the original position of 6 inches.  Create a steady rhythm with the mantra and the breath

END:  INHALE - EXHALE- INHALE

                                                               TIME:  11 - 31 minutes

COMMENTS:  This mantra connects the finite and Infinite identities.  This will powerfully remind the mind of your true identity with your Infinite and Divine Being
